George Bernard Shaw was an important British playright and social reformer in the late 19th Century and early 20th Century.

We know now that the soul is the body, and the body the soul. They tell us they are different because they want to persuade us that we can keep our souls if we let them make slaves of our bodies. [1]

Early in adult life Shaw was an atheist but later Shaw came to believe in some mystical poorly defined life (purposeful?) force realising itself through nature and evolution connected with New Age-ism. It appears Shaw's belief in a life force was as much faith based as traditional religion. Throughout his life Shaw strongly opposed traditional church based religion.

Shaw helped found the UK Fabian Scciety and the UK Labour Party, both aiming to ameliorate the suffering of poor people. Shaw worked and campaigned tirelessly to counter harm by rich and powerful people done to poor and weak people.
