Uniformitarianism is the theory (now accepted as fact) that the earth has a slow steady history. Supported by mountain loads of evidence such as strata, rock record, and the fossil record. It provides one of the main pieces of evidence for evolution. Popularised By Charles Lyell and inspired Charles Darwin to formulate his "theory" (now accepted as fact).
